The Floyd Community Theatre Guild is seeking submissions for its 1st Annual Playwriting Competition. To further interest in community theatre, we are encouraging playwrights to submit original scripts as part of our first annual Playwriting Competition. All submitted plays will be adjudicated by an independent panel of judges. No musicals are eligible for this contest.
Play Submissions will be accepted through June 15. Judges will read the scripts and the top 5 submissions will be asked to participate in an interview with the judges and FCTG board. The First Prize winner will receive a full stage production of their script as part of our 2018 Production Season.
Please follow these guidelines in preparing your manuscript:
Only entries submitted in accordance with all rules will be eligible for consideration.
Script Submissions should fall into one of the FCTG's production types: Main Stage Production (Actors ages 16 & up), Young Actors (Actors ages 16 & below), Workshop Productions (Actors of all ages)
Authors may submit more than one play. An entry fee must be paid for each submission.
This contest is restricted to plays written in the English language.
The play must be unpublished and cannot have been given a public performance by a professional company. Plays that have been professionally produced or published are not eligible. Plays that have had a workshop, reading, or non-professional production or that have been published as an actor’s edition will be considered.
No adaptations of other authors’ works will be eligible for consideration.
Open to playwrights of all ages!!! Minors will need Parent/Guardian’s consent.
Plays should be of a suitable length for a full evening performance.
Play should be no longer than two hours in length when read or performed.
Play should be typed, double-spaced, page-numbered and in standard professional play format.
Title of play and page numbers should be on EACH page.
No musicals may be submitted for this contest.
Do not bind or staple the manuscript.
Do not send the only copy of your work. “Please be sure to save your manuscript to your computer hard drive or to a flash drive.”
Scripts can be submitted online or via mail. If submitted via mail, you must submit FIVE copies of your script.
Email scripts to firstname.lastname@example.org and include author’s name, address, phone number and email address in the email – (but not in the attachment)
Submit entire script in PDF format.
Plays need to contain TWO title pages. This information is for media releases in the event you are a winner.
The first title page should show the play’s title and your name, address, telephone number, e-mail address (if you have one), page count, and (if applicable) a list of acknowledgments.
The second title page should list the title of the play only, a 2-3 sentence keynote description of the play, a list of characters, and a list of acts and scenes.
A brief biography may be included at the end of the manuscript, on a separate page, but is not required.
Mail a registration fee of $25.00 for each submission to Floyd Community Theatre Guild via check or pay by card on the Floyd Community Theatre Guild website (www.floydctg.com)
A committee of three to five judges will select winners, and their decision shall be final. FCTG reserves the right to award only one prize or no prizes at all, depending upon the scoring results provided by the judges. Judges will agree to destroy or delete all electronic versions of submitted scripts.
Play must have the completed submission form (one per entry) printed and included with mailed submissions, or attached with electronic submissions.
Play must be submitted between the dates of June 1 and June 15, 2017
Electronic submissions must be sent during the Submission Period.
Postal entries must be received during the Submission Period.
Floyd Community Theatre Guild reserves the right to reject any play for any reason.
Entry Deadline is June 15, 2017
Awards will be presented to winning the playwright(s) on July 15, 2017. Winners will be notified beforehand.
Author of the First Prize play agrees their play will be performed on Floyd Community Theatre Guild’s stage as a part of the 2018 Season.
Limit of 2 scripts per individual. Playwright must pay the $25 fee for each submitted script.
